Rakhtbeej is the story of two men, from two different generations. Even though their worlds are different their lives keep intersecting. Abhay Jatav, from humble beginnings, ends up becoming the most dreaded dacoit in UP. Ajay, also from humble beginings, becomes the CEO of Dabral Group of Industries at a very young age. Abhay knows Sarita from a long time, and Sarita is in love with Abhay. But when a simple village girl Poonam enters Ahbay's life he totally forgets about Sarita. On the other hand, Sanjana, Dabral's daughter is in love with Ajay for the longest time. But when supermodel Priya enters his life, he is blinded by her love. The story focuses on 5 friends Prabhu, Elango, Sundar, Indra and Priya at the Madras Institute of Technology, who want to remain friends throughout their lifespan and hope to join the same company after graduation. During a vacation, Elango goes home where he is forced to get married to his rustic cousin, Eshwari by his tough disciplinarian father. Once back to college he hides the fact about his marriage to his friends but later the marriage becomes public when relatives of Eshwari come to visit Elango. While their dream to work together becomes true, Elango alone gets a transfer to Bombay. The friends fight but later reunites back. Before Elango goes Bombay the friends force him to visit his wife and put him on a train. But Elango manages to get off the train and from there loses touch with his friends and family in the village. The friends part and 6 years later Prabu and Sundar come back to join Priya and Indra in Chennai. On the train journey back, Prabu meets Elango's wife Eashwari. Prabu falls in love with Eashwari without realizing who she is. Eventually he along with his friends finds out the truth about Eashwari, who is waiting with hopes of her husband to return. The four friends decided to help Eshwari find the whereabouts of Elango. One day Prabu finds out that Elango might be in Switzerland. Prabu decides to go to Switzerland. One fine day he finds Elango but to his shocks, Elango has a kid and is married to a Swiss woman. Meanwhile, in India Elango's dad committed suicide. Prabu goes back to India and there he comes to know that everyone knows about Elango's marriage. Eshwari decides to get married again and move on with life rather than thinking about Elango. Her village people decide to marry her off to one of her relatives but she threatens them telling them off that she would decide her own life and no one is going control her life anymore. Sundarapandian (Anandaraj), an orphan and angry man, is the henchman of a rich man Manivannan (Manivannan) and he often went to jail for minor offenses. Karthikeyan (Ramkumar) enters his house as a maid and he falls with his daughter Kalyani (Saradha Preetha). In the meantime, Mallaria (Kasthuri), an orphan, tries to reform Sundarapandian and they fall in love with each other. One day, a poor girl Chellayi (Ragasudha) is raped and killed by a corrupted MLA (Vasu Vikram). Sundarapandian and Mallaria finally get married, they decide to leave the village but they don't have enough money. Manivannan prepares his daughter's wedding with the MLA and Manivannan orders Sundarapandian to kill the innocent Karthikeyan. Sundarapandian, who is now a good man, decide to join the young pair. Pallavoor Devanarayana Pothuval aka Devan (Mammootty) who is a talented drummer. People flock to the festivals just to see him play the drums with utmost devotion. His father opposes his relationship with a girl belonging to a lower caste and forces him to marry a girl of his choice Vasundhara (Sangeetha). Unable to bear his decision she commits suicide. He leads a very glum life with Vasundhara though she loves him and takes good care of him. He gets injured while trying to save his teacher s daughter from some miscreants and is taken to an Ayurvedic hospital. Mezhathoor Vaidyamatam Nampoothiri s (N F Varghese) granddaughter Seethalakshmi (Raasi) who falls in love with him so the doctor asks him to marry her. He refuses and goes back to his wife. She becomes pregnant and simultaneously he learns that doctor s granddaughter is also pregnant. Everyone in the hospital thinks that he is responsible for it. She loses her sanity after Devan leaves the hospital. Vasundhara dies of shock when she hears rumors about her husband. He goes to the hospital to tell the doctor that he is innocent but in a fight which follows he accidentally kills a guy and is sent to jail.
