iva (Ramki) is an honest police officer who was brought up by the judge Sathyamoorthy (Vijayakumar) when his mother died. Sathyamoorthy has two sons : Aravind (S. N. Vasanth) and Raja (Raja Raveendar). The influential smuggler Mudaliar often clashes with Siva and Sathyamoorthy. Siva and the jolly college student Priya fall in love with each other, later they get married with Sathyamoorthy's blessing. One day, Raja (Raja Raveendar) rapes Mudaliar's daughter. The next day, Raja is found dead and Siva conducts the investigation. Ramesh admits to his father Sathyamoorthy that he killed his younger Raja. Sathyamoorthy decides to protect Ramesh at all costs while Siva wants to send Ramesh to jail. What transpires later forms the crux of the story. more»

The story begins with Mangalasherry Neelakantan's (Mohanlal) son Karthikeyan (Mohanlal), as he ventures out to make money which ultimately makes him a liquor baron. The relationship between Neelakantan and Karthikeyan deteriorates, as the father does not approve of his son's money-making methods. Mundakkal Shekharan (Napoleon) comes into the picture again after spending a term in prison for killing one of Neelakantan's friends. He decides to finish the Mangalasherry family by confiscating the house which was kept as collateral for Bhanumathi's (Revathy) treatment. Bhanumathi passes away and Karthikeyan is now bent on taking revenge.\nNeelakantan loses his home and Karthikeyan ventures out in an attempt to reclaim his ancestral home. In the meantime, Karthikeyan abducts Shekharan's daughter Janaki (Vasundhara Das) in an attempt to blackmail him (Shekharan), during which they fall in love with each other. The remainder of the movie is about how Karthikeyan manages to get his ancestral home back while Shekharan's nephew Mundakkal Rajendran (Vijayaraghavan) makes attempts to kill Karthikeyan, but instead kills Neelakantan by lighting him on fire and gets killed by Neelakantan after a knife throw which decapitates Rajendran. Karthikeyan, now infuriated, goes to kill Shekaran by burning him. But Warrier stops him and brings him back. But on the night of marriage Shyam is not only accused of a safe break but also death of Kamini (Snehlata), and forced to join the criminals in a spate of robberies after one of which there is a showdown between him and the rest, and he manages to escape and lands in a town where he saves a young girl, Meena (Nazima) from a group of hooligans, who then forces him to come to her house for first aid treatment. Meena is the daughter of an honest cop, Constable Ram Singh (Pran) who instantly adopts him (now called Mohan) as his son. Notwithstanding continuity jerks; now all actions (murders, rapes, gold smuggling) and characters find themselves in the same town. And the lecherous Deepak in partnership with Jamna Das is the kingpin of all unlawful activities even though DIG Gopal Das is honesty personified. In the swiftly changing scenario, the old lovers get reunited, songs and dances in flashback follow, Shyam/Mohan finds out Kamini is alive, after some fisticuffs he is arrested, Ram Singh gets promoted as Sub-Inspector, but in a chase to prevent Deepak/Jamna Das's consignment with gold he falls prey to the former's bullet. DIG Gopal Das gets him cremated with full honors, vowing to get the culprit booked. Jamna Das agrees to marry off Sapna to Deepak to consolidate his nefarious activities but Shyam/Mohan spoils the party leading to a showdown between the partners. Not only that, he also convinces the DIG about his son's doing, how he had been hoodwinked into the aiding them, and brings him to the scene of action where the party is in a confessional mode. The second wife of kind-hearted and generous Amirchand Bhargav is Durgadevi Bhargav (Nadira), who is exactly the opposite of her late husband.
